Palm Beach Philanthropist Lois Pope exemplifies the concept of The Power of One, the theme of the annual Chart issue for 2025-26 where she is featured on the cover. Mrs. Pope had an idea to honor disabled veterans. She persevered for a decade until her vision for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial was completed and dedicated in DC on Oct. 5, 2014. The memorial located 1000 feet from the U.S. Capitol building, is the only permanent public tribute to America’s disabled veterans. Mrs. Pope then had October 5 designated as a National Day of Honor and Remembrance for disabled veterans. With American Humane Society, she drove legislation to bring home Military Working Dogs after their service ended, and is the presenting sponsor of the Annual American Hero Dog Awards. In Palm Beach County, at the Lois Pope Pet Clinic at the headquarters of Tri-County Animal Rescue in Boca Raton, Mrs. Pope commissioned the National Military Hero Dog Monument. Her long list of impactful philanthropic endeavors including these, has earned her the title of the Pope of Philanthropy.
