Last week I had a conversation with another long time professional in the communications industry. We agreed that while our advertising / marketing / public relations industry is exciting and rewarding, that the most valuable life experience is spending quality time at home with our children, whatever their ages. Your children are your forever, the buzz and fanfare that our industry creates are fleeting.
With the thought of family and forever in mind, I donated some of my “Secrets of the Southern Shells” gift books to the new Coastal Girls Cares charity with books available at Coastal Girls Co. in Via Bice on Worth Avenue. The book is about timeless wisdom passed down the generations from Southern mothers.
In 2010 as the book went to press, I had one of my advertising friends, who also had a teenage daughter at the time, read the short story. We were at a buzzy restaurant. She started crying. I assured her quietly that the little starfish Star in the story would be fine at the end of her adventure. She explained, “If my mother had told me these things in this book my life would be very different today.” We all need a reminder sometimes of timeless wisdom and to know that we are loved.
