Thankful 2013

cyber security ucf 1-11-14_flyer_LRcs

Thankful at Chart on Thanksgiving. Nov. 2013. Today I am thankful that I can communicate with you.  I am thankful for freedom. I am thankful for the freedom to promote publicly and freely, using my ad agency experience and passion to promote people, products, organizations, concepts and values.

In 2011, for a period I lost that freedom because of cyber crimes. I wrote the novel based on that experience, Marlins Cry A Phishing Story. I diligently sought resources to protect myself and also to share with others. I am, after all, a communicator. I connect information with people who need or want it. Every person who uses a phone or computer needs to know what I have researched.

In my frustrating and desperate searching for information, I thankfully did discover invaluable resources to help thwart cyber crimes. I had produced recruitment films for UCF’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) several years ago. I sought advice from CECS through a UCF Foundation executive, Donald Hale. He connected me with CECS Professor Dr. Sheau-Dong Lang who teaches cyber security forensics and also volunteers with Orange County Sheriff’s digital forensics unit.

A community service event evolved from our communication. While a half day event cannot be comprehensive, the information and tips will be beneficial for any individual or organization. So it is this desire to save others from cyber attacks that paired a charity and creative magazine with a cyber security topic. So, it is with this explanation that Chart magazine presents to you, a free conference on cyber security for individuals. We are all connected. Safety starts with each of us.  — Casey Tennyson, Chart Publisher
